Informal Justice Court: create awareness
The production of a real theater play will be part of The Informal Justice Court Project with the lives, stories and experiences of the participating inmates as the main characters. The theater play will be used as a key element to raise awareness of the pretrial detention problem and mobilize the public to put pressure on the government. Therefore the performance of the play will be taken by professional theater makers to different stages in Nigeria and abroad in order to reach a broad audience.
The play will be performed for other inmates of Ikoyi Prison, to sensitize and educate a larger group about their legal position and rights. Decision makers and stakeholders who can make a difference, like police, judiciary and policymakers, will be invited to the performance in Ikoyi Prison. It will be brought under attention of national and international media to be sure that it will be covered in order to reach the general public.
